The State Service Act 2000 (the Act) is enabling legislation that is supplemented by the State Service Regulations 2001 (the Regulations), Commissioner's Directions, and Ministerial Directions and Determinations. This legislative framework has been designed to support a contemporary workforce and to provide the best possible services to the Government, the Parliament and the community. Commissioner's Directions are a very important part of this framework and enable the Commissioner to issue legally binding Directions in relation to any matter relating to his statutory functions. Ministerial Directions relate to the administration of the State Service and Ministerial Determinations provide terms and conditions of employment which are not covered by awards, Industrial Agreements or Enterprise Agreements. Accordingly, Ministerial Directions and Determinations are issued by the Minister on the advice of the Director, Public Sector Management Office. |
